I first entered the world of game development in early high school, when I tried my hand at following a tutorial for Unreal Engine. What first began as an experiment quickly grew to be a full fledged passion as I played with other engines like Godot, Unity, and GameMaker, teaching myself the fundamentals of programming along the way. At the same time, I learned conceptual art practices from my high school teachers as a visual art major; which not only developed my diligence and dedication, but also helped me refine, and become confident in, my own artistic visions.
When I began developing games, I tried to replicate the mechanics from some of my favorites at the time, like Patapon, Monster Hunter, and Minecraft. My motivation, originally, was just curiosity. I was interested in understanding how and why their mechanics were so fun to me. After a while though, I began to play more and more games, expanding my library of influences and further fueling my passion. I gained a special love for short, impactful games, and strategy games.
I am currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Game Arts at Pratt Institute; where I’m further honing my skills in design and programming, as well as pursuing more ambitious projects through collaboration with my friends and classmates. In my free time, I’m usually making music, playing incremental games, or completing my long list of daily word games. Feel free to reach out to me anywhere, and by email (davidsong9719@gmail.com)!
